Bakker’s writing is philosophical, abstract, and at times difficult to follow, but altogether rich and demonstrative. With The Darkness That Comes Before, Bakker has created a world rich in culture and history that few other fantasy worlds can match. Darkness, the first book (and his debut book as a published author) has been followed by five others, most recently, the newly released The White-Luck Warrior. The brilliance of these books lies in what Bakker seems to be saying about the weakness of the human condition, something that we all can relate to.
